Summer ended in the blink of an eye and with it came some cooler weather and quintessential New England charm. Perhaps we are getting in the spirit a bit early, but we’ve already reigned in fall with pumpkin-themed home decor and a cinnamon sugar-rimmed pumpkin beer. Fall is a reminder that letting go can be beautiful and we can always choose to turn over a new leaf. We hope that you too embrace this new season, whether the view from your window is growing fiery orange or evergreen.
The Georgette Petingas- The Georgette brand of tinned fish was launched in 1888 and survived two world wars. The canery still produces these high quality tins according to traditional methods. Petingas are smaller sardines and a bit of a delicacy. We recommend grabbing your favorite cracker, spreading a thin layer of tartar sauce, topping with 1-2 petingas and a pinch of fresh herbs like lemon thyme!
Atlantic Salmon Slices- This canned salmon is packed full of Omega-3s and is rich in protein, calcium, and vitamin D. Try your hand at making salmon cakes! Beat an egg in a medium bowl and combine with the drained salmon, 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt or sour cream, 1 teaspoon of dijon, ½ teaspoon of lemon juice, a pinch each of onion and garlic powder, and 1 tablespoon of parsley. Mix all the ingredients together and then shape into patties. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a cast iron pan and brown the patties on both sides. Enjoy with a little Greek yogurt or sour cream!
